How to Measure Your Patio Before You Enquire
You do not need a survey to start a sensible conversation. Four numbers and a couple of photographs are usually enough for us to tell you what will fit and what it will roughly involve.
Width along the wall
Measure the usable run of wall, then note anything in it: doors, windows, meter boxes, outside taps, soil pipes and lights.
Projection into the garden
Measure out from the wall to where you want the front beam. Stand a chair at that point and check it still feels like enough room to walk behind a seated guest.
Height available
Measure from patio level to the underside of any gutter, soffit, bedroom window sill or vent. Height decides the roof pitch you can achieve.
Levels and photos
Note any step or slope in the paving, then take one straight-on photo and one from each side. Those three images tell us most of what we need.
Frequently asked questions
What if the wall isn't square to the patio?
Very common. Frames are made to suit, which is exactly why the survey measurement rather than yours becomes the manufacturing figure.
Is there a minimum height?
There needs to be enough fall for water to run off. If headroom is tight, a low-pitch or free-standing solution is usually the answer.
Can I send measurements by WhatsApp?
