The case for electric
Convenience changes behaviour. People with motorised awnings adjust them several times a day, so they get more shade when they want it and retract sooner when the wind gets up. Wide, deep awnings are heavy to crank, and the effort puts people off using them. Add sensors, and the awning protects itself when the house is empty, which a manual one cannot do.
