Awning Pricing: The Five Things That Move the Number

Awnings look like a simple product until you compare two quotes and find a large gap between them. Almost always the difference is in the arm system, the cassette and the fixing method rather than the fabric you looked at first.

Projection and width

How far the awning reaches out matters more than how wide it is. Longer arms carry more leverage back into the wall, which means heavier arm sets and stronger brackets — that combination is where the cost climbs.

Full cassette, semi-cassette or open

A full cassette seals the fabric and arms away when retracted and protects them from weather and grime. Open systems cost less and suit sheltered walls or covered recesses; on an exposed elevation the cassette usually pays for itself in fabric life.

Fabric grade

Solution-dyed acrylics hold colour and shed dirt better than cheaper alternatives, and the weave affects how much light passes through. Patterned and heavier technical fabrics sit above plain ones.

Motor, remote and sensors

Motorisation is now the default. The variables are remote versus wall switch, whether you want sun and wind automation, and whether cabling has to be chased in or surface-run in trunking.

The wall itself

Awnings pull hard on their fixings. Rendered, insulated or hollow substrates need through-bolting, spreader plates or a bespoke bracket rail, and that preparation appears in the labour line.

Frequently asked questions

Is a wind sensor worth adding?

On an exposed or unattended elevation, yes — it retracts the awning automatically before gusts can damage the arms.

Can an awning be fitted above a bifold?

Usually. The bracket line often moves above the lintel or onto the soffit, which the surveyor checks before quoting.

Do you re-cover existing awnings?

We assess it at survey. Where the frame and motor are sound, recovering is often sensible; where the arm system is worn, replacement is the safer outcome.

How long does an awning install take?

Most domestic installs are completed in a single visit once the brackets are set.
