Veranda Maintenance: The Twenty-Minute Routine
Aluminium and glass structures need very little, but the little they need matters. Twenty minutes twice a year prevents almost every problem we get called out to.

Glass
Warm water and a soft cloth or a soft brush on a pole. Avoid abrasive pads and solvent cleaners, which damage coatings and gaskets.
Frames
Wash powder-coated surfaces with mild detergent, particularly on coastal or roadside properties where salt and traffic film build up.
Gutters and outlets
Clear leaves from the gutter and check the downpipe runs freely. This is the single most valuable job on the list.
Fixings and seals
Look along the wall plate for any gap opening up, and check end caps and gaskets are seated. Report anything that has moved rather than adjusting it yourself.
Frequently asked questions
Can I pressure-wash it?
We would not. High pressure drives water past gaskets and can lift coatings at edges.
How often should gutters be cleared?
Twice a year normally, more often under trees.
What about moss on the frame?
Wash it off early; left in place it holds moisture against the coating.
