Motor Runs But the Awning or Roof Doesn't Move
A motor that hums but produces no movement is drawing power and trying to turn, but something downstream is stopping it. This is different from a silent motor, and narrowing down which it is helps a fitter get to the fault faster.

Seized gearbox or bearing
The most common cause of humming with no movement is a seized internal gearbox, often from years of use or from moisture getting into the tube. The motor's electrical side still works, so it draws current and hums, but the output shaft cannot turn against the resistance.
Mechanical jam downstream
On a louvred roof or a folding-arm awning, the motor can be perfectly healthy but blocked by a jammed blade hinge, a bent arm, or fabric wound unevenly on the roller. Humming with no movement here is the motor stalling against an obstruction rather than failing itself.
Checks a homeowner can safely do
Switch off at the isolator, then visually check for anything visibly bent, misaligned or off its track. Do not keep pressing the control repeatedly — repeated stall attempts can overheat the motor's thermal cut-out or damage the winding faster.
