Wall Fixings Working Loose Over Time
A fixing plate that has developed a small gap from the wall, or a post base that flexes slightly more than it used to, is worth checking properly rather than assuming it's cosmetic — fixings carry real structural load, particularly in wind.

Why fixings loosen over time

Look for a visible gap opening between a wall plate and the wall surface, cracking in render or masonry radiating from a fixing point, or a post that visibly moves at its base when the structure is used normally.

If the fixing screw simply looks slightly proud, gently snugging it can do no harm, but don't force a screw that spins freely in a worn hole, as that indicates the hole itself needs attention, not just the screw.
Does this suggest the original installation was wrong?
Not necessarily — fixings can loosen over years of normal use and weathering even when correctly installed originally, particularly on softer wall materials.
Will re-fixing damage my wall further?
