Uneven or Misaligned Awning Arms
Arms that no longer sit level with each other put uneven strain on the fabric, the roller and the wall brackets, and the problem tends to worsen with use rather than settle down on its own.

How misalignment develops
Arms can drift out of line from a knock during retraction, a bracket working slightly loose in the wall over years of vibration, or simply from one spring settling differently to its pair over a long service life. It rarely happens overnight unless there has been an impact.
Signs to look for
The clearest sign is a front bar that visibly slopes rather than sitting level, or fabric that bunches to one side as it extends. You may also notice the awning takes noticeably more effort or sound to open on one side than the other.
Checks a homeowner can do
With the awning extended, stand back and sight along the front bar from directly in front to see whether it slopes. Check each wall bracket visually for any gap between plate and wall, without applying force to test it yourself.

Why this isn't a DIY adjustment
Arm tension and pitch adjustment involves working against loaded springs, and getting it wrong can make alignment worse or release stored tension suddenly. Bracket refixing into a wall also needs assessing what's behind the surface, particularly on rendered or cavity walls.

It's not usually an immediate safety risk, but uneven loading accelerates wear on the weaker side and can eventually strain the fabric or bracket further, so it's worth addressing rather than ignoring.
Could this be a fabric problem rather than the arms?
It's possible the fabric itself has stretched unevenly, but a sloping front bar is more commonly the arms or brackets rather than the fabric alone.
Will re-tensioning fix it permanently?
Re-tensioning corrects the current misalignment, but if it was caused by a loosening wall fixing rather than spring wear, that fixing should also be checked to prevent recurrence.
How urgent is this kind of repair?
It's not usually urgent in the way a leak is, but leaving uneven arms under continued use tends to accelerate wear, so booking a check within a reasonable time is sensible.
