A Zip Screen That Won't Run Smoothly
Zip screens run in a guide track that keeps the fabric edge sealed and taut, and a jam is usually the zip teeth or slider catching on debris or misalignment within that track rather than the zip itself failing outright.

Grit, leaves, and general outdoor dust collect in zip guide tracks over a season and can cause the slider to catch or the teeth to skip, particularly at the point where the screen is used most, near ground level.
Zip teeth misalignment
If the fabric has been pulled slightly off-square when closing, or the screen has been forced past a jam previously, the zip teeth can shift slightly out of true alignment with the track, causing repeated sticking at the same point.

Never force a jammed zip past resistance, as this is how teeth get damaged or torn from the fabric. Instead, gently work the slider back a short distance, check for visible debris, clean the track with a soft brush, and try again slowly.
